The Breathing Effect - The Fisherman Abides
the pier sees water-static
and a blinding phoenix
entropy displays its latest work
beneath a languid gallery
tempest proof, spoiled by clean air
an impenetrable cast leaves me
clambering on cold planks
while the gallery is rising inside
People watching people watching
every person that has
every single moment ever lived
impressed upon their wet gaze
and each one's more beautiful than the last
swimmers swim and lookers look, at no cost
no loss for a fisherman with new eyes
I'm acknowledged in a foreign tongue
as the wheelchair man makes another lap
walkers walk and talkers talk at no cost
no loss, for the seagull with new eyes
the sign reads: "No Overhead Casting,"
and the fisherman abides
